Failure To Update Initialization File Opening Odbc; Dsn=" Mms Series I

Symptom

Starting the Series 1 program generates the error FAILURE TO UPDATE INITIALIZATION FILE., OPENING ODBC; DSN="MMS SERIES I"

Solution

The Data Source reference in the SERIES1.INF file was changed. This could have happened if the customer needed to reinstall Series 1.1 because they purchased a new computer, reformatted their hard drive, or deleted the C:\WINDOWS directory. In some cases restoring an old copy of the SERIES1.INF file from a backup has also caused this problem.

  • Change the ODBC DSN=entry in the SERIES1.INF file to match MMS SERIES I SU
    1.  Edit the C:\MITCHELL\REPAIR\SERIES1\MDB\SERIES1.INF
    2.  Add the SU to the end of the DSN=.. line. The section should now read:
     [ODBC] DSN=MMS Series I SU
    3.  Save and exit the file. Then restart the computer.
