My ZipCD DVD will not play a DVD disk after installing the DirectCD software

General Use - Updated 06/10/04

Product
Iomega ZipCD™

Symptom

The problem occurs after installing the DirectCD® software and the ZipCD™ DVD drive. DirectCD installs a file to mount a UDF 1,02 DVD-ROM disk. Some programs are not able to talk directly with the DVD-ROM drive while it is mounted using this driver.

Solution
Adaptec® is aware of the problem and it is fixed with an upgrade from Adaptec to DirectCD 3.01d. Go to the Adaptec web site for downloads.

Another temporary fix is to rename the driver file that is causing the problem.

• If you are using Windows® 98/95 use the following steps:

a. Click Start, select Find and choose Files or Computer.

b. Type in the file search window, UDFREADR.VXD

Note: This file is usually located in the C:\windows\system\iosubsys

c. When the file is located, right-click the file and choose Rename.

d. Rename the file to UDFREADER.OLD

e. Restart your computer for changes to take effect.

Note: If other programs or devices do not work, rename the UDFREADER.OLD to

UDFREADER.VXD when you are finished using the DVD.

• If you are using Windows NT or Windows 2000 use the following steps:

a. Click Start, select Find and choose Files or Computer.

b. Type in the file search window, UDFREADR.SYS

Note: This file is usually located in the folder C:\winnt\system32\drivers

c. When the file is located, right-click the file and choose Rename.

d. Rename the file to UDFREADER.OLD

e. Restart your computer for changes to take effect.

Note: If other programs or devices do not work, rename the UDFREADER.OLD to

UDFREADER.SYS when you are finished using the DVD.
